When death investigator Detective Shark Morgan is summoned to investigate the tuxedoed body sprawled across the steps of the antebellum church just off Hilton Head Island, he is unsure if he is dealing with a tragic accident or murder. Either way, millionaire real estate developer Marcus DeSilva is very dead. Morgan and his partner, Dell Hassler, begin to peel away the layers of deceit and deception surrounding DeSilva's life, one name keeps cropping up at every turn: Marissa, the widowed bride, a woman with a shadowy past, whose face has haunted Shark since he first saw it filling his television screen on the local evening news. Is she simply another unfortunate victim, or is the violence that seems to be following in her wake more than just coincidence?

I loved this book - it's a great read. I didn't want to put it down until I finished it, and then I was sorry it was over! This is the most fun I've had with a book in a long time. I really liked the characters of Dell and Shark. I'm glad the author is going to continue with those characters. I can't wait to read the next book.
Debut novel delivers

Newcomer Vicky Hunnings proves herself anything but a novice in her debut mystery novel, THE BRIDE WORE BLOOD. Deftly capturing the sights and smells of the SC Lowcountry, Hunnings weaves a spellbinding tale of murder and deceit set in the posh resorts and secluded enclaves of the wealthy elite of Hilton Head Island. Beaufort County death investigators William "Shark" Morgan and Dell Hassler are surprised when they are called out on a lovely fall afternoon to discover millionaire real estate developer Marcus DeSilva dead on the steps of a country church. Even more shocking, he has been shot from long range on his own wedding day! Inside they find the widowed bride splattered with her husband's blood. Morgan is doubly taken aback when he realizes Marissa DeSilva is the local TV newscaster who has haunted his dreams for the past several months. Thus begins a bizarre investigation with more twists and turns than a meandering marsh creek. As Morgan becomes more deeply drawn to the lovely Marissa, he discovers she is no stranger to violent death, including that of her own parents and a former husband. Is she, as Hassler insists, a "black widow," or could she have been the intended target all along? One by one, suspects are identified and eliminated, leading Morgan and Hassler to one of two conclusions: either DeSilva died as the result of a tragic hunting accident or they are dealing with one of the most cunning murderers they've ever run across. Even the fiery death of someone close to the investigation fails to untangle the twisted web of lies and deceit that lead finally to a startling and totally unexpected resolution.Vicky Hunnings has woven a complicated, satisfying mystery that will leave readers begging for the next case for Morgan and Hassler, due out next spring.
