The Boy on the Tape
When Lukas returns to Lithuania with his son after decades away, he expects to find familiar streets, old apartment blocks and the football fields of his childhood.
What he doesn't expect to find is himself.
Hidden in an abandoned family home are dozens of forgotten VHS tapes. Among them lies an extraordinary discovery: recordings of a seventeen-year-old boy singing songs he wrote himself at school nearly thirty years earlier.
As Lukas begins watching the tapes, memories long buried begin to surface.
The football matches that felt like World Cup finals.
The Friday garbage truck that brought an entire neighbourhood together.
The sound of balcony doors opening at dusk.
His parents.
His friends.
The childhood he thought he had left behind.
Beautiful, heartfelt and deeply nostalgic, The Boy on the Tape is a story about growing up, growing older and discovering that the moments we miss most are often the ordinary ones we never thought to save.
For anyone who has ever returned home and found both everything and nothing waiting for them.
