Timeless wisdom

"Words that enlighten the soul are more precious than jewels. -- Aug 16." If that is true, than this slim volume is more precious than a bank vault full of jewels. This book consists of 366 aphorisms, one for each day of the calendar year, by Hazrat Inayat Khan (1882-1927), the great Sufi mystic and talented communicator of timeless values. Some of these aphorisms are more proverb-like ("Those who throw dust at the sun, the dust falls in their own eyes. -- March 4"), some re-vision traditional religious values ("The lover of nature is the true worshipper of God. -- Aug. 13"), and some are fodder for deep reflection over time ("Mysticism to the mystic is both science and religion. -- Oct. 17"). Overall, this is a short book to read all the way through, and it is a book that yields deeper and deeper on repeated readings. I cannot recommend it enough. The volumes with just "A Book of Saki" by itself are now out of print, but the entire text is contained in The Complete Sayings.
