The Book of Wrongs: Book I

Have you ever been told an unforgettable story? Most people would probably say they have. The Book of Wrongs is a series of Books with a compilation of short stories. These stories are inspired by stories told to me over the years. Captivated by their Intrigue, I decided to take the central theme of every story and create a new one. The story will give an insight into culture and norms of society over different eras in the history of Belize. A twist to the stories is that while they are narrated in English, they all contain a massive input of dialogue in Belizean Creole. A translation is included at the back of the book to help with any struggles. There are jargons, phrases and slangs unique to a society, some we will never read about in any other book unless it was told. In this book, The Book of Wrongs, Book I there are two stories. The Wrong Grave and The Wrong Woman. The Wrong Grave, is based on a story told to me by my grandmother Edwina McSweeny. She told me of a harrowing experience she had at her home one night when some unseen force terrified them all night. It so happens that she had sent two of her children to the cemetery to lay flowers for a loved one. They didn´t do as they were told but instead played among the graves at the cemetery. That night after they had gone to bed, my grandmother got a rude awakening. There was loud pacing on her verandah. She had a downstairs neighbor at the time and that family was awakened by the ruckus too. They looked but there was no one outside. The angry pacing continued for hours. The incident left them traumatized. It was then that she got the story out of the children, one of whom was my father. They had awakened some unexplainable thing. The next day they went to the grave and set the flowers at the designated grave. Nothing like that happened ever again but it shook her beliefs. Up until that day, she had always believed there was an explanation for anything. The Wrong Woman, is based on a personal experience in my childhood. A neighbor had been embroiled in a domestic dispute with his partner. He had tried to cause serious harm to her but providence or luck depending on ones perspective, brought my parents into the picture who intervened on her behalf. The warring couple separated that very day, but the woman had made a cryptic remark about her ex´s future. We saw the unravelling of that man. It began almost immediately. He went insane and to this day, walks around Belize City lost. Over the years, I have reasoned, with myself, that maybe - the cryptic remarks and his insanity are connected.
