Windslow is twelve and in a wheelchair. He and his sister find a magic Book of Second Chances, what will they use it for? Will they choose to save a distant world or use it to make Windslow walk again? Each night, Windslow and Hillary dream-slip to the
I have the first two books of this incredible series and am highly anticipating the rest. Windslow and Hillary really have to use their heads and come up with some creative ideas to get through their adventures in the hilariously fun and sometimes frightening world of Gabendoor. The magic wand duel is one of the most imaginative wand duels written. My eyes were bugging out as I read it. No matter your age, this is a must read.
Pleasing Fantasy Adventure for Young Readers

Although I am well older than the target audience, I found this tale very entertaining. I enjoyed all the laughs between the old wizards and the Sallyforth triplets. It stands out from many stories just for the fact that one of the main heroes is confined to a wheelchair. The book bears a message for young readers on taking chances and finding courage to act even when they are scared. I can't wait to share it with my children.
Good Reading, Even For Adults

This is good fiction even for adults. I saw the author speak and acquired a copy of this book. I am glad I had a second chance to trade money for the book. I spent the rest of the day reading the book and found it hard to set onto the coffee table. I really enjoy how the author plays with the words and has fun with the sounds. In addition the descriptions are vivid and remind me of short Tolkien descriptions.
You'll love this book the FIRST chance you have to read it!

When Hillary and Windslow find a magical book that sends them to Gabendoor each night when they fall alseep, they gain a whole lot more than second chances. The book and all of their new and strange friends accompany them on a fantastic journey of danger, courage, and love. Mike Blumer is a master of witty dialogue, suspense, and very funny (and handy!) little creatures that dwell in the shadows and under your bed. For me, the Sallyforth triplets stole the show with their wonderfully odd language and their keen sense of fun. Molly always tells the truth; Tillie sometimes tells the truth; and Nelly never tells the truth. This leads to hilarious dialogue and misunderstandings that turn out to be quite fortunate after all. Dream-slip to Gabendoor and discover where your own magic comes from. Looking forward to Book 2!
Book Club Group Review

A Review sent to me by a book club-- The members of our Book Club "The Book Factory" came up with some words to describe what they thought of the first book of the series. Hilarious Fantastic Mystical Unputdownable Fabulous WOW! Generally they all thought the book had funny, creative characters. Hippograffs seemed to be a favourite as was Eldervale. The five Book Clubbers that read this book all enjoyed it and said they look forward to reading the next in the series. They found the beginning a bit "jumpy" but then got into the story. There were a lot of favorites in this book from Windslow, Fernbark, the Sallyforth triplets, Eldervale and of course the hippograffs. Windslow being in a wheelchair didn't seem to have any negative feedback; it actually made the story more interesting.
