The author describes all characters so well that you can easily picture them in your mind. The story has funny parts and parts that are sad and touching that I’ve cried a few times. Loved it!

Pick up this book and stop for a visit in Dove's Pond, North Carolina with Grace, Daisy, Mama G., Sarah, Trav, and all the others you'll meet in this charming, close knit, and somewhat peculiar town. A librarian who hears books speaking to her, a wise old woman facing dementia who seems to read minds and shares insightful advice, a mayor who prefers fishing to working, a gardener who makes specialty teas that work miracles for those who really need them, a wounded veteran who guards himself and others from the darkness he's seen in the world, a sometimes surly little girl who just wants to belong and be loved, and a woman who has faced adversity time and again and is reluctant to open herself up to becoming more than a worker and bystander in life outside her immediate family. This charming town and its characters will draw you in and make you wish you could really visit for a while and have a cup of coffee and the meatloaf special at the Moonlight.

A Charming Story!

This was a very charming story about friendship and finding a place to belong with a dash of really cool magic in the form of books being able to talk to Sarah Dove. This would be so cool if it were real because I know it would help me out so much if my books could tell me which one I needed to read next.
While the books were a really fun touch to the story, they were more of a sidepiece to get the occasional lightheartedness in the book. This was more about Grace and Sarah and learning to rely on others in order to save the charming little town of Dove Pond from financial ruin. I liked all the characters, from Sarah to Grace to little Daisy and Mama G. And of course Trav who had his own dark issues to cope with but still opened himself up to help Grace in dealing with the sadness of Mama G and the disease of Alzheimer's.
This was a fun book and I would love to read others that either deal with Dove Pond, or maybe one of Sarah's sisters, like Ava.
