After discovering an ancient skeleton with modern dental work, archaeologist Peter Pujol realizes he has solid evidence of time travel. The problem is, no one believes him. No one except the eccentric physicist Robert Collingwood and his beautiful daughter Kate. After an unfortunate accident wherein both of the Collingwoods die, Peter is indicted on murder charges and sent to prison for life. It is there he discovers the truth about time travel, that it is possible. He uses this newfound knowledge to go back to try to prevent the deaths of his mentor and lover. Unfortunately he finds that there are laws associated with time travel that cannot be broken and that prevent him from changing a known present. Eventually he finds himself desperate and broken, travelling randomly-unguided by his diminished mind-to places not of his choosing. Can he ultimately break free and somehow affect the past and consequently the present? Can he save Kate? Or is he condemned to wander through time, taking the brunt of its punishments?
