Wonderful, moving, rich.................

This book is oh so wonderful. I lost one copy and had to have a replacement. A real winner don't pass it up.

Captivating!!!!! An emotionally consuming tale.

This book is by far the best read I have had in a long time, and believe me I devour books. Lin's descriptions are vivid and her prose exquisite. I loved it, loved it, loved it. An excellent choice for any reader.

I LOVE THIS BOOK. It's so wonderful, compelling... you know

I love this book so much. I just finished reading it. It took me two days. I love this book sooo much. It took me there, completely. It was so good and descriptive that I could actually imagine the characters moving. This is exactly how China and Asia was described to me by my parents. I love it. The story was so intense that I couldn't put down the book. I kept reading it for two days straight until my eyes were so tired!! I even put off all the homework assigned by my professors just to finish this book. It is definately worth your time. The first reader doesn't know what he's talking about. There are NO hard words in this book, and it is NOT hard to understand! It's so easy!! Maybe he's just too white, considering the fact that Lim uses like a few Chinese words. Also, he's probably confused, because when Han dreams in the book, she doesn't tell you. It goes straight into a dream sequence. Any smart reader would know.Anyways, this is one of my favorite books, if not my favorite. I loved it. I was sad at the ending, but you know.

Excellent and deep love story

After reading so much of the mass market novels offereed on the market today, Catherine Lim's exotic and haunting tale of a bondmaid named Han spawns deep thoughts in the mind. Her story is captivating and memerizing as Lim takes her readers beyond words and deep into the feelings of the character she is portraying. It is one of the greatest books I have come across which by far exceeds any story that have been written by other best-selling authors in the States. Powerful, gripping, and finally a book that isn't a "bimbo" love story!

Breathtaking

Catherine Lim is a brilliant author. Her novel, The Bondmaid, has captured the spirit and essence of what life was like in a wealthy Straits Chinese household; still a lingering memory for many of the older generation within the Straits Settlements. I also highly recommend Ms. Lim's many volumes of short stories (unfortunately only available in Singapore and Malaysia) about life in Modern Singapore.
