The Bohemian Haggadah combines traditional elements of the Passover Seder with a few innovations. It is designed for people who enjoy tradition, but also favor brevity and a little bit of fun especially in the musical domain. The Bohemian Haggadah incorporates the main prayers and blessings from the online Chabad Haggadah, both in Hebrew and in English, up to and including Birchat Hamazon, Grace after meals. However, the Exodus story itself is related in simple conversational English and includes elements not contained in the traditional Haggadah such as the early life story of Moses and details about the ten plagues and the crossing of the Sea of Reeds, obtained from Biblical and Midrashic sources.Where The Bohemian Haggadah largely differs from the traditional Haggadah is in its truncation of the Hallel and Nirtzah sections. This is based on the author's experience that guests from less observant backgrounds generally leave at the end of the meal, or skipping Hallel completely, they go to the last couple of songs of Nirtzah such as "Chad Gadya" and "Echad Mi Yodeya". In The Bohemian Haggadah, the Hallel and Nirtzah songs comprise parodies in which the traditional lyrics have been adapted and set to the music of well-known popular songs. For example, the Psalm 115 has been adapted and set to the music of Simon and Garfunkle's "The Sound of Silence", while the often overlooked Nirtzah song, "It Happened at Midnight" has been adapted and set to the music of "Memory" from the musical "Cats" by Andrew Lloyd Webber. In addition, the signature Passover song "Dayenu" has been adapted and set to the music of Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah". The Bohemian Haggadah also includes Passover parodies of "The Bohemian Rhapsody" by Freddy Mercury and "What Comes Next?" from the musical, Hamilton. The Bohemian Haggadah is illustrated in full color to make it interesting and engaging for families with young children. Its goal is to educate and inspire while providing a fun experience for young and for old.
