Edwin has lost his father to cancer. Hilda has lost her partner to suicide. Their journeys through grief and trauma are separate tales interwoven during one bone-splitting winter.
They are both connected by the Bobhowler - a mythical moth said to guide the lost souls of dead miners out of the darkness toward the eternal light.
When Edwin and Hilda meet the following summer, they form a bond and set off on a journey together across the Black Country and Shropshire. In the abandoned mines of those regions they search for the Bobhowler.
Will they return to the light or are they destined to wander through the darkness of their grief forever?
Bobhowler, oh Bobhowler
Hear their prayer
And take pity.
