A great collection of Recipes

They say that if you can get ONE recipe you really love from a cookbook, you have done well. Actually, I have found several in this great cookbook. What I appreciate most is that it begins with a complete glossary of the cooking terms used in the book, followed immediately by instructions on everything from using a meat thermometer to sifting powdered sugar. This section alone makes it a wonderful gift cookbook. My personal favorite is the section marked "Homemade equivalencies of Commercially Canned Soup" - including Cream of Mushroom Soup and Cream of Celery Soup. While they are much harder to make from scratch, these choices are great for the cook is caught in a pinch! You should be aware that these are not 1 or 2 ingredient recipes, but rather this book contains a wide selection of choices for people who enjoy cooking. Well organized, lots of great recipes!

Well Done!

I received this as a gift and I've found it to be very useful. Its a wonderful reference for me, I've used it especially for canning and baked goods. Its much, much better than the standard better homes and gardens cook book most people have. I've tried to compare the two, but really there is no comparison. Your more likely to put out flavorful recipes with this! If I had to buy someone just one cook book I would give them this. Its got step by step descriptions and each chapter begins with a "how to". Perfect for experienced home cooks as well as in-experienced beginners.

Excellent cooking resource!

The Blue Ribbon Country Cookbook is one of the best purchases I have made. I have been cooking for more than 40 years and have an endless collection of good cookbooks. This cookbook is one of my top five and I would highly recommend it to anyone, beginning chef or "well seasoned". The recipes are for the most part, excellent, well written and easy to follow! I have just purchased it, again, for a young women who is opening up her own restaurant in rural Nebraska!

Now I can cook his meals like his mom!

Maybe I am the only wife who ever experienced this, but after 16 years of marriage, I was still not to make some of the dishes his mom did. Every son loves their mothers cooking and I wanted to be able to cook him some of those meals, but never quite got it right. I can now! In her book, Diane taught me the basic of midwestern cooking from scratch and now I receive the highest complimemnt - "As Good as Moms and Grandmas". Thanks Diane
