Book Overview

David, a twenty-eight-year-old artist, is recovering from a bad breakup with the mysterious and beautiful Sienna when he discovers a woman's dead body half-buried on the beach near Lompoc, California. To his surprise, David is interviewed not just by the local sheriff, but by FBI agent Krane, who declares that the woman was killed in a ritualistic manner. Soon the dead woman is identified as David's ex-girlfriend, and he becomes the prime suspect in her murder. But Sienna can't be dead; she keeps leaving messages on his answering machine. And no matter how badly their relationship ended, he couldn't have killed her. She was the love of his life. In self-defense, David begins his own investigation, trying to find out who the dead woman really is and what's behind the satanic murder. He's both helped and hindered by his friends, especially Julie, whom he had a crush on in high school and who has suddenly reappeared in his life, and the Reverend Pomus, who tries to warn David of the reality of true evil. David's search for Sienna and the truth about her disappearance take him from coastal California to New York City to Florida-and into the darkest night of his soul.

Pike always a pleaser

I have re-read this book several times, and I just love it! I couldnt put it down because with each page I wanted to know what was going to happen next. It has everything,Horror, mystery, romance. It is shocking and Pike's writing style always leads you to believe what you are reading Could actually happen...which is why it's so chilling! If your a fan,it is a must, and even if you're not~it might surprize you!

Thoroughly Engaging

I bought this novel late Friday night and was unable to put it down until Saturday morning when I finally finished it. While "The Blind Mirror" is not Pike's finest, it is certainly a fantastic story. The story was pure Pike. Regardless of complaints that the speech was stilted and used correct grammar (i.e. cannot and do not instead of can't and don't). Those who have truly read Pike's books will know that the characters only use speech of that nature when something of significance is revealed. In past books it has been the fact that the characters were not human at all. I had been waiting for a Pike book for years. This was a release that I welcomed and was dying to purchase and I was not disappointed. The story was delightfully twisted with Pike's characteristic surprises. The characters (especially David) were very real and very much filled out. I got a sense of exactly who the characters were (as well as who they were supposed to be) when reading. I loved the ending. Pike is not know for the traditional and popular happy endings. And this is an ending that broke all the rules that most fiction novelists follow. I personally believe that this book was worth the price, no matter which edition you purchased.

A Different Style Of Writing, An Excellent Story

This book is very different in comparison to previous Pike novels. The writing is simple, and effective. The story itself, mysterious and captivating. Pike has never been the kind of person to tell a story the normal way, his weirdness, his originality is what sets him apart. I appreciate that he grows as a writer, in terms of style and content - and Blind Mirror is a healthy, engaging step further in an author who continues to share with us some of this worlds best fiction. His ability to meld genres with unexpectedly purposeful prose is genius. Blind Mirror hits you fast and hard at the end, but on rereads is actually highly effective and smart.

Good to be back!

I was so happy to have a Christopher Pike in my hands again. I am hoping that his hiatus is over and we can start looking forward to more frequent publications. Pike is a master of the horror/fantasy genre and this book lives up to my high expectations. Although still not my favorite book (Season of Passage is just too amazing to surpass I'm afraid) this is certainly an excellent trip into the mind of David Lennon. Happily, the mind of Pike is still a great, dark mystery to me. I would put the quality of this book equal to that of The Cold One, which will leave horror fans deliciously scared and wanting more. Please don't make us wait so long for another, Mr. Pike!

A Work of Sheer Brilliance!

This is one of Pike's finest books, and I have read them all. The start of the story is classic -- a mysterious woman is found dead, murdered in a ritualistic fashion. The main character, a twenty-eight year old man named David Lennon, is the main suspect, largely because the dead woman might be his girlfriend. But what starts out as a normal mystery quickly takes increasingly brilliant turns. I notice a few reviews here questioning Pike's writing and plotting. Ignore them -- Pike has never been more at top of his game, and a frightening game it is. Indeed, in the years since Pike stopped publishing, he has made huge stylistic leaps. The Blind Mirror contains paragraphs to die for -- on virtually every page. This book kept me up all night, and kept me thnking about it for weeks. I cannot praise it highly enough!
