The Birth & Death of a Builder: White Flight-Staging A Building Boom

During the 1960's-70's, the auto industries boom enticed thousands of whites & blacks from the South for the rich Motown areas jobs. They brought their traditional prejudices with them. Whites & blacks emerged as an affluent middle class sharing work and urban neighborhoods initially. Racial tensions however magnified fueling the "white flight" which resulted in urban area becoming ghettos and suburban areas enjoying a building boom. At this same time period numerous legislative laws were written focusing primarily on racial, environmental, and financial issues; which continues to affect us today. Many of the integration laws backfired resulting into more segregation. Chapters in this book illustrate how white bigotry was displayed while following the birth and death of builders during this period. The author during this period was a real estate broker, mortgage broker, and builder. It is his experiences and others that inter mixes fiction and non-fiction along with numerous historical events that occurred and affected building during this time period
