The Billionaire Who Bought a Curse: A Dark, Grounded Paranormal Romance
A Dark, Grounded Paranormal Romance by Scarlett Cross
When billionaire developer Mark Halvorsen buys the failing land trust of Briar Hollow, he expects crumbling infrastructure, bad paperwork, and a town on the edge of collapse.
He doesn't expect the curse that transfers with ownership.
For generations, Briar Hollow has been held together by a covenant designed to contain something predatory within the valley. The rules are simple and brutal: the land answers to authority, and authority carries consequences.
Hannah Calderon has spent her life managing those consequences. Court-listed, uncelebrated, and very careful never to let anyone get too close, she knows one truth better than anyone else:
The covenant can't be controlled.
It can only be carried.
As pressure builds and the boundary begins to fail, Mark's instinct is to shoulder the burden alone. Control it. Contain it. Endure it.
But the covenant doesn't respond to domination.
It responds to consent.
Forced proximity becomes deliberate alignment. Stabilisation becomes touch. And the only way to stop the escalation is to choose something neither of them planned for - shared authority, shared responsibility, and a bond forged not by fate, but by decision.
Dark, emotionally grounded, and intensely intimate, The Billionaire Who Bought a Curse is a slow-burn paranormal romance where power is tested, consent is explicit, and love is proven through action, not destiny.
This story features:
A protective, consent-driven billionaire hero
A capable heroine who never gives up her agency
A unique procedural curse tied to legal ownership
Earned heat, deliberate claiming, and aftercare
A grounded, adult HEA built on partnership and choice
No pack politics.
No alpha rivalries.
No prophecy.
Just two people who choose to carry something dangerous together - and make it work.
