A perfect book for any holiday with a parade ? Harvey was excited when the mayor appointed him parade chairman. He loved parades. Fred did not. Fred doesn't want to be in the parade - not in the beginning, not in the middle, and not in the end. Not on the baseball float, and certainly not dressed as the founding dog of Bonesport. But Fred loves Harvey, so he wants to make him happy. And even though Fred isn't in the biggest parade Bonesport has ever seen, he's proud to play the most important role!
Another book about Fred and Harvey, and it was fun to read.

Supposedly the stars of this book, Fred and Harvey, made their debut in another book titled Dog Show. I haven't read Dog Show, or any other book with Fred and Harvey in it. But this book was interesting. I can't say that I loved it. But I'm sure it is one that a little kid will enjoy having read to him or her time and time again. The illustrations were well done, but their style was just not my cup of tea. The story is about a dog owner (Harvey) and his dog (Fred) that live in a town called Bonesport. The Mayor of Bonesport solicits help from Harvey to organize a big parade for the town, and Harvey agrees to help. Of course, not only Harvey did the planning - Fred helped him quite a bit. I would have liked the book better if more of the pictures were more involved than just a close-up of Fred shaking his head or Fred chewing on a bone. One illustration reminded me of an old Clint Eastwood movie that was shot in a fake town that looked like a fake town. And there were characters mentioned in the text that we never saw pictures of. Saying this, I think there could have been better coordination between the author and the illustrator in putting this book together. 4 stars!
