Just bought this at a bookstore as a bargain book for $12.99 and love it! It is HUGE - hardcover with gorgeous pictures of prepared dishes. It is well laid out, beginning with basics discussing ingredients (herbs and spices, vegetables, pasta, gnocchi, cheese, etc) and then moves on to provide a list of basic recipes, which include various sauces and dressings, crepes, creams, etc. It also provides cooking tips and then launches into a heafty selection of recipes from appetizers, to side dishes, main dishes, salads and desserts. It is a whopping 781 pages of recipes each ranked from simple to medium degrees of difficulty. This book is great for a novice cook who needs to know basics of Italian cooking. I have enjoyed each recipe I have made so far and was thrilled to see how easily I could bake my own breads (without a bread maker)! So far, I am very pleased with this book. It would also make a great table book as the pictures are lovely. Keep in mind that this big is very big and heavy. All and all, it is worth the price I paid. Fun for a novice cook!
