The Bible and People of Other Faiths

Most Christians in the modern world live in situations of religious pluralism. They are constantly challenged, at many levels, to relate to people of other living faiths. But is the Bible supportive of a life in dialogue? That is the question The Bible and People of Other Faiths seeks to answer.

A little book with a huge heart

I liked this little book quite a lot. It is small, simple, and filled with deep concern and love of Christ. I read this book more than 10 years ago, and there are still small stories that keep coming back to me: Ariarajah asks his students if they are going to the Hindu festival in town. They laugh ands say no. "They worship another God". And he, as the teacher answers -do you believe in more than one God? When Jonah was called to go to Nineveh -it was the capital of Assyria, the enemy of the Jewish people at that time. And God accepted the repent even if it was not made according to the Jewish way of repentance, but made according to the Assyrian religion. The book looks at how the Hebrew Bible talks about people of other faiths. It shows when and where it happens. It tells the story of people of other religions that are men of Jahve in the Jewish history -the Christian Old Testament. Does the Christian doctrines make it more easy, or harder, to be accepted by God than in the Jewish faith? This book tries to seek for that answer, and its consequences.

Should be Required Reading for Evangelists

This book specifically addresses the idea of Christian exclusivism, the belief that only through Christ can souls be saved. Without questioning the Bible's authority it seeks to show that even within the Bible is laid the foundations for genuine religious dialogue between different faiths. It was a great help to me during a campus wide evangelization effort. If you are curious how someone can believe in Christianity with all their heart and still accept other religions as valid, read this book. It won't take long.
