I have worked w/several groups over the years - groups that are intending to build community. Invariably they fail as the egos get in the way, the group is overtly of a particular mindset and not willing to see another's viewpoint - in many ways "this is my idea & yours is wrong". I have been working towards community since the 70's - so I have seen an awful lot of this sort of attitude. Many books I've read on community may be strong on one aspect, but fail miserably on other aspects of community. This one is an EXCELLENT template of how to plan for, think about, and implement community. It has a lot of the interpersonal areas covered (just look at David's Role Playing books). Some friends & I are working towards building a community in AZ & we are using the ideas in this book ( & some of David's other books) as a template. And we are looking forward to meeting more folks that are looking to join or at least check out our ideas for community - read this book & you will have it in a nutshell. Well written. I also understand that David is intending to update this (it was written in '82/'83) & we are SO looking forward to the updates & what has been learned from living in this sort of community for over 30 yrs. Write fast David!! ;-) & thanks, this is an invaluable resource from someone that has lived it, not just pie in the sky like so many other books on community.
