"I had heard that getting into law school would be difficult in this economy, but even my pre-law advisor didn't prepare me for how competitive the application and interview process was. The people who wrote this book are the top students at the top law school in the country, they really know what they are talking about. They have so many different backgrounds that it would be hard not to find a template that matches your experience almost exactly." - A Second Year Student at the University of California, Berkeley, Law School "I wish this book had existed when I was going through the process of applying to law school. It breaks down the process of getting into law school from high school all the way through your time after college if you don't go straight-aways. It's a top resource, and it's hard to argue with half the class of Harvard Law when they tell you exactly what they did." - A Third Year****************************************SAMPLE EXCERPT FROM THE BOOK Dominating Your Law School Essay One of the most important things I learned from the application process is this: If you know you're not going to apply for a while, even for a year or a few years, it's much easier to come up with essay material if you write down interesting experiences as they happen to you. You'll also have time to reflect on why those experiences matter to you. You could go all out and draft full essays as these experiences happen to you, but that's probably not feasible for anyone with a job or a life. The point is just to note the experiences and reflect upon them. This will not only allow you to write better essays with more ease later but will make you a more reflective and thoughtful person overall. If you do build a repository of experiences and reflections, you'll find it quite easy to write your essay when the time comes. For me, I had some experiences in leadership roles as an undergrad that I felt were worth noting and reflecting upon. I later had responsibilities in the professional world that I felt nicely juxtaposed those earlier experiences. Because I had let my thoughts marinate for a significant amount of time, when it actually came time to write the essay, the words came out very quickly and easily. This is just another reason why you should leave yourself plenty of time to prepare for your Ivy League law school applications. **************************************** For more excerpts from the book, visit getintoharvardlaw.org
