The amount of energy devoted to a fight or struggle is usually determined and sustained by the value placed on that thing we struggle to keep for ourselves. The fight is driven by what we stand to gain or lose at the end. Those things may be regarded as our core values or the fundamental principles and beliefs that guide our decisions and actions. That is, things that are most important to us such that we can hardly dismiss or do without them. They are things we are willing to live and die for. Such things may include our life, our property, our family, our money, and our faith (namely, the kind of religion we belong). For example, in the African context where land is valued asset and land boundary encroachment is common, some people do fight - even to death - against any breach on their landed property. Similarly, some people try to eliminate their political opponents so that they may win election or clinch to power. Equally, there are several other things some people are willing to sacrifice their very lives in other to have them even when those things do not add up to anything from God's eternal perspective.
