This is my first book, written while I was deployed on the USS Carl Vinson. Apologies for any typos or mistakes made in my story. This book was written in perhaps a strange format. The story is told from the point of view of the main character, Tomas Mystria, later in life dubbed the Bastard Prince by his enemies. There are parts where details are intentionally left out because the character is supposed to have forgotten the details. Once again, this is intentional. From one of my friends that I had read the book ahead of release he questioned why the 'aunt' was never named, this was one of the forgotten details. After nearly fifty years the character has forgotten her name, her face, nearly every detail about her. Perhaps if enough people want to know I could come up with an idea for a name, but I do not think it is that important:A prince. A general. A king. A traitor. A villain. A bastard. An illegitimate child; often looked down upon for the sins of their parents, but can one rise above stigma that clings to them from their birth? My tale begins with my parents, a simple servant in a castle and a beloved king. I would never say that they were in love, but then I never met my mother, she had died giving birth to me. However, my father was a great king, a brilliant general and political leader, keeping the nobles in line while keeping the commoners happy, expanding our borders greatly since he was crowned after his father's early death. And still he was not content to follow an agreement with his sole wife, the bane of my youth. A beautiful but harsh woman who knew the truth about who and what I was. Oft times I would hide with my younger sibling to avoid her wrath when we got into trouble with the servants or the guards. I miss those days of my youth, decades gone now as I record this tale, maybe to defend my actions, or maybe to let others know the truth of the one known as the Bastard Prince.
