Too flawed by 1930's racism to stomach

While it may have been "progressive" to feature a mixed race aborigine as a detective in the 30's the main mystery focuses on a character's innate racial tendencies emerging from their surface layer of civilization as he turns adult and can't escape the destiny of his mixed race DNA. Upfield has a strong reputation- I am really hoping that he came to his senses in later books
