Two young men-one married, one single-invest in an old tavern called the Handle Bar, in a state known for its alcohol consumption, somewhere in middle America. The project is fraught with challenges, however: one, for fixing the old building up; two, for handling a number of interesting characters; three, for staying sober; and four, for avoiding temptation in other areas besides alcohol.
Follow the likable partners as they confront the various habitu s who begin to frequent the bar: funny, serious, drunk, sober, pleasant, insulting, innocuous, dangerous, sexy, etc., as well as the morals confronted with this tenuous enterprise-for example, the two liaisons one of the guys manages to have (which do not work out), before he becomes infatuated with a friend's wife, with disastrous consequences.
There is no end to the sometimes funny, sometimes painful events in the Handle Bar, as well as some serious concerns about life, love, and survival in a mixed-up, isolated, exciting, and at times, destructive existence.
