A thrilling new Voice is added to World Literature

Mark my words: In the future the name Enrico Antiporda will be spoken by literati with the same respectful reverence as the names Hemingway and Hosseini are today. Mr. Antiporda is a Filipino-American and a skilled painter. He is also a writer so enthralling that his first few books have already drawn comparisons to Hemingway, Hosseini and Garcia-Marquez. The Band of Gypsies is Antiporda's first novel . It follows the first-person narrator Jaime Aragon after he arrives from Manila for an internship in Bilboa, Spain. Jaime moves in with an international and multicultural cast of characters - Allison, Elena, Bjorn. A season of exotic adventures follow - love and lust, feasts and dances, terrorist bombings and gypsy festivals. Antiporda creates a vivid and lively universe and populates it with characters we come to care about. No unwieldy tome, this book demonstrates a refreshing economy of words. Antiporda paints a vivid scene in a paragraph that would have taken Dickens a couple of pages. Both a travelogue and a coming of age story, The Band of Gypsies marks the debut of a thrilling contributor to world literature. At his heart, Enrico Antiporda is a story-teller. And he has such stories to tell.

What a story!

What a great book! The style is clear, descriptive, and captivating. The stories the writer tells (although might have been a bit exagerated) are breath-taking. I could not stop reading the book once I had started. Can't wait for the sequel. Awesome!

Reading The Band of Gypsies- was like visiting an old friend

Reading The Band of Gypsies- was like visiting an old friend; I laughed, and reminisced in inspired memories of my own international traineeship experience. Thanks for the adventure.I was connected to the stories and the memories. I carried this book around everywhere I went, and told everyone I know. The adventures took you through beautifully described places and made you think of the characters as people you know. I commend the author, of The Band of Gypsies, Enrico Antiporda for the feeling and details he put into this book. I can't wait for a sequel!

A great book! I really enjoyed reading this book.

It was as if I was a part of this book. The details of the scenes captured me. They were so sharp in my mind as I read. I felt the characters pain, love and joy. I liked the way the characters were described. I loved reading in a different language. It was romantic. I never wanted to stop reading. I could read this one again. I can't wait to read "Iberian Nights".

I couldn't put it down.

This is a wonderful poignant novel. I was sad when I finished it. It captured the magic of my younger years. I loved the way the author wove the side stories and legends into the bigger story of a love affair between Allison and Jaime. I can't wait to read the sequel. He's a great storyteller.
