The idea for The Bald-Headed Princess and our heroine Isabel came from my experiences as the mother of a little boy named Christopher who had leukemia. During the four years of his cancer treatments, Chris taught me a lot. I learned about fear, the boredom of the hospital, hope, and the importance of family, not to mention all about the yucky parts of cancer treatment. I learned about incredible bravery and unstoppable humor on the part of my son and all of the young cancer patients that I met....If you are a young cancer patient reading this book, I wish that this story lifts your spirits and brings you hope. If you are reading this book because you know a kid with cancer, don't be afraid to talk and play and laugh or even cry with her. That's what friends are for.
