The book analyzes the evolution of performance measurement and evaluation in public administration (PA), proposing the Balanced Scorecard (BSC) as a strategic tool for building effective monitoring and improvement systems. After a historical-normative framework, including the Brunetta and Madia reforms, the author examines performance measurement models, highlighting how the BSC allows for the integration of strategic objectives, resources and results in a multidimensional perspective. The potential adaptation of BSC-originally developed in the private sector-to the public context, with a focus on universities, is then explored.
