D-Day From the Perspective of Residents of Normandy
Published by Patty , 2 months ago
I have read a dozen books that took place in France during WWII. This one takes place in the town of Vergers on the Normandy Coast. It showed the courage and cunning of a young woman who helped feed her starving neighbors during the occupation.
While only the last chapters are about the D-Day invasion, it showed how much the allies gave up in order to free France and Europe of Fascism. It is well-written and inspirational.

Fantastic story about the life of a young Girl Emma..who lives in a small French town..on the coast of Normandy..the little village is invaded by the Germans...and they have nothing..their food, their farm animals, all the food crops are taken for the soldiers...Emma who was an apprentice of the master Baker in town..uncle Ezra..to the village people.. Who one day was forcefully taken out of his shop... to the village square and shot (for being Jewish) ...now Emma has the responsibility of making the bread to feed the German soldiers...as she does this..she takes some of the rationed flour and mixes it with ground straw...to stretch out 2 more Loaves of bread everyday that she bakes.... she hides it..and then distributes it later to the elderly hungry villagers..sharing a chunk at a time..hoping it will help their hunger..something is better than nothing. Everyday Emma travels through the village..making exchanges of items..to help others survive...an egg for some milk...some milk ..for some tobacco and fuel..for the catch of the day..to feed a family..all the villagers helping one another through Emma..giving them Hope, and dignity, and a defiance...for what has been done to them..or taken from them. As luck would have it..a Brutal Nazi Captain..finds out about Emma's web of lies and resistance..and beats her badly..and promises to come back to kill her...but through her pain..Emma Carrie's on..the best she can..checking on the people of her village..with Strength and Courage..and shear Will. There is SOOO MUCH MORE to this Excellant story..its details and characters all filling out the rest of the story...bringing it to life ..keeping you insuspense about what's gonna happen next and how the village is recused when the Allies arrived on the beaches in Normandy ! Absolutely a very deserving 5 star rating ! Fablous Writing and story telling .🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

This novel has a new twist; what was it like for the occupied French to witness their rescue by the allied forces at the end of the occupation?
