Transported back in time to medieval France, Seattle writer Diane Teal accepts the protection of Baron Simon de Argent, who regards guarding the strange woman as a duty until he finds himself falling... This description may be from another edition of this product.
As with Wings of the Storm, Susan Sizemore has found a way to do time-travel romance in a way that no other author has been able to duplicate (that I've seen, anyway.) The differences between now and the Good Old Days are brought up in subtle ways - the heroine wishing for a toothbrush, the descriptions of the meals and accommodations, the situations of the characters, male and female... it all brings the reader to reflect on our own time and circumstance and say Thank You AMEN! The plot of Autumn Lord is, as others have written, a twist on the Arthurian legend. The time-traveler - a modern Asian American woman - is viewed as a monster by many of the inhabitants of 12th century France. The attitude of the priest toward her is particularly enlightening. I really enjoyed this book, though I did enjoy Wings of the storm much more. (*)>

Great Time Travel that Plays Off the King Arthur Legend
Published by Thriftbooks.com User , 20 years ago
THE AUTUMN LORD is out of print, but it is definitely worth the effort to find a used copy. One of the best time travel romances I've read, THE AUTUMN LORD plays off of the King Arthur legend by having a Merlin-like old wizard from medieval France zap modern-day heroine Diane into the past and into the life of Simon, a handsome lord made bitter by his wife's betrayal and son's mad desire to kill him. There are four things I adored about this book. One, Diane has a very "real" reaction to being transported back in time. She's terrified and refreshingly un-heroine like in that she's not trying to change the past or save anyone as much as she's simply trying to survive. Two, Diane is cursed with the inability to talk unless she's singing a song or telling a story, which makes for a very thoughtful (and vulnerable) character. Three, Diane is part Chinese, so almost every character in the book vilifies her right away, convinced she's a demon or evil, and abuses her as such. This is a sad, but unique, approach to the time travel romance, highlighting the danger over the curiosity/exploration of the past. Finally, this book has an ending that is not only satisfying, but also rewrites the Arthurian legend as well. If you are looking for a fresh and unique take to the time travel romance, read THE AUTUMN LORD. Highly recommended!
A Wonderful Medieval Tale With Twists...
Published by Thriftbooks.com User , 23 years ago
This was one of the best medieval time travel romances I have ever read. A young half Asian woman is transported to medieval France by a wizard intent on rescuing his friend from a doomed future. It is unique in that most such stories usually have Caucasian heroines. Her Asian heritage is critical to the storylne because, being so exotic, people from this era mistake her for a demon or the like. In the modern world the heroine is a sort of film critic. When she first arrives in medieval France, she is forced into the role of storyteller, and the stories she tells, based on movies, put into medieval terms, is hilarious. "Casablanca" and the Godfather" will never look the same to me again! Loved the ending, don't read ahead!

This romance novel is one of the few that I have read that I couldn't put down. Diane and Simon we perfectly written and the raport between the two you could feel. The wizardary and the settings made this book even better. The ending made it all come together . Recommend to anyone who loves to read a book with emotion , conflict, and a plot. Lisa Ann Riccio CT
