She begins making a film about a fly's perspective on the world. Jennifer lives with her young single mother Sarah. They have a caring but sometimes tense relationship due to their differences. Jennifer's friend Casper transitions to female and changes her name to Cassandra. Jennifer begins dating Jim, who is also on the autism spectrum. Jennifer gets an opportunity to pitch a film to Disney executives but refuses to compromise on her artistic vision when they want to make changes. She attends Cassandra's wedding to Hannah and meets a woman named Emma, bonding over their shared love of film. They kiss during a dance. Jennifer has imaginary conversations with her filmmaking idols like Georges M li s and Rainer Werner Fassbinder, gaining inspiration and validation. She makes an independent film called "Somewhere in California" but faces criticism at a test screening. However, she stays committed to her vision. After her mother Sarah passes away, Jennifer directs a music video that brings her commercial success but also criticism for "selling out." She develops a screenplay about photographer Diane Arbus called "B/W" but struggles when a producer wants to alter her vision. Throughout her journey, Jennifer grapples with staying true to her artistic ideals versus pressures to conform. She embraces her identity as an autistic filmmaker.
