Alfa and her three siblings were raised in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, by their strong, independent single mother, who placed a high value on hard work and education. Alfa's unique blend of musical, scientific, and creative inclinations led her to achieve a Bachelor of Science from the Fashion Institute of Technology, which allowed her to create a career in textiles. This further afforded her wide and varied opportunities in travel, and allowed her to garner valuable and culturally significant savoir-faire.

Her wide-flung interests motivated her to volunteer in museums and other non-profits, all while developing her strong connection to her faith.

While moving through, and eventually out of, an abusive relationship, Alfa returned to her deep-roots work in non-profits and activism. Her experiences inspired her to become a powerful advocate and activist, supporting women and children escaping domestic violence.
