This book is about an African American aunty and her young niece, Gelly, who have a super, fun relationship. They are always playing together! The aunty frequently changes her hairstyle, and sometimes Gelly does not recognize her, which makes Aunty sad. Gelly's family teaches her how to recognize Aunty and others, regardless of how their hair is styled, with fun "magic" to illustrate how people can look differently based on their hairstyle, clothes, scarfs/hats, etc.. This is an important message in our community, as we (all genders) frequently change our hair and our look. There is also a strong covert message that, we as individuals, have greatness and potential within us that is sometimes bigger than our current environment/surroundings, and we can use our imagination (in our "magic" world) to visualize and realize our potential, even before it comes to fruition! This is a fun, educational read to share with small children, ages 2 to 7. It is also a great family-time read for all ages. Enjoy!
