The Atlanteans: A Modern Frankenstein

By Alex Bos

Carlo Bianchi, an actuary suffocating under routine and the crushing burden of his chaotic twin brother, Anthony, hoped their bizarre Mediterranean "twin cruise" would offer closure after their mother's death. But the Gemini never made it to Italy. When the cruise ship goes down in a catastrophic wreck, Carlo is plunged into a chilling new reality.

He wakes up not on a beach, but in the deep-sea kingdom of Atlantis, healed and irreversibly transformed into the first successful human modified for underwater life. His mouth is sealed, his lungs breathe brine, and his survival is the triumph of a brilliant but unnerving surgeon, a woman who calls herself Mercedes.

Mercedes and the Atlanteans reveal a shocking truth: humanity is doomed by a coming extinction event, and Carlo is a living trophy in a desperate, last-ditch effort to preserve the species. While Carlo adapts to his monstrous new form and the knowledge of the world's end, he can't shake the sensation that his twin is still alive-a contradiction Mercedes insists is impossible.

Now, Carlo must navigate a bizarre, high-tech society beneath the waves, grapple with his alien identity, and decide if the survival of his species is worth the loss of everything he once knew.
