A book by the Masters of the Craft

It's terrific that the American Society of Cinematographers (ASC) finally brought together articles written by their own members about the behind-the-scenes, and how-to's on some of the best known effects films in cinematic history. However, it really is written for those in the industry, or the true aficionado with a grasp of the technical aspects of visual & physical special effects. Includes articles on STAR WARS, SUPERMAN, etc. penned by the folks who actually designed and came up with the effects. The book features folks like Linwood Dunn (the father of the optical printer), Richard Edlund (Star Wars, Raiders of the Lost Ark) and many more. The casual reader will enjoy the photos, but will probably skim over some of the more technical aspects. Not the kind of thing you would see on the book shelf at Barnes & Noble--more for the true "effects film" enthusiast!
