Good Service

I received the book reasonably quickly and the book was in good quality. Would buy from this seller again!

My favorite Art Therapy/Education book!

This is without a doubt one of the best books one could obtain if they are interested in either or both art therapy and education. Cane's book is set in the 1940's and early 50's, but her methods are as relevent and pioneering as ever. It is truly a shame this book has gone out of print, and I wish I had read it when I was in art school. Cane's philosophy is that the process of art-making can heal and integrate the personality, as it uses the three basic processes of movement, visual sensation, and thinking. Her book describes very clearly her theory, methods, and specific case histories both for students and therapeutic clients. Many might find her process oriented, but I find it refreshing that she does actually discriminate between which art she finds of good quality. Her criteria consists chiefly of the degree of authenticity with with the student has made their marks, accessed their feelings, etc., therefore they are criteria which serve the student's integrity instead of their ego.I found great inspiration in these ideas and intend to incorporate them in my profession. Anyone feeling stuck in their own artistic process should find her methods beneficial as well. Get yourself a copy while you can!

The most marvelous of art therapy books

This book uses abundant color and black-and-white illustrations to trace the development of children and young adults as they learn to connect body, spirit, and their artwork. Focuses not only on expression and healing, but on developing excellence as artists. Florence Cane talks of techniques such as chanting sounds before doing art and pulling patterns out of scribbles. She is an early pioneering genius in the field.
