A spectacular ceramic vase, an elegant blown glass light fixture, a hand-forged metal chair: well-chosen art and craftwork turn a house into a home, reflecting the owner's personality. Create a warm and expressive environment by thinking like an artist and envisioning your home as a canvas for displaying beautiful things. Written by Toni Sikes, Founder and CEO of The Guild, Inc.--a leading name in fine art and crafts--this image-packed guide offers practical information on finding, showcasing, and caring for original art. Sikes gives a room by room tour, revealing the potential in every space and showing how to transform hallways into galleries; build a room around a special piece; use color, composition, and texture like a painter; and design vignettes that enhance collections.
This book has many pictures of very striking rooms. However, I will say that its obvious that many of these rooms are in very expensive houses (high ceilings, large rooms). Also, many of the rooms shown have a very particular style (heavy custom styling). For example, nearly every console table shown is the kind with an almost sculptural base and the chairs look like custom pieces. You wouldn't find hardly any of the furniture shown here in a standard furniture store. Most of us couldn't create a lot of this ourselves either. Thus, I would say this is something like an idea book for people with a lot of money working with interior designers on a similar style. Not a criticism of the book - just letting you know what it is and isn't.
