The artwork of Australian based painter, Bernard Ollis has been influencing generations of local artists since the 1970's. A past Director of the National Art School, he is renown for a unique and vibrant approach to colour and an unusual, inventive composition which forces the viewer to take a deeper view into the scene. Bernard Ollis studied at The Royal College of Art in London and was mentored by David Hockney. He has been the recipient of various grants and residencies, most recently to Cairo as guest of the Australian Ambassador. He has been a finalist in the Sulman Prize, the Conrad Jupiter Art Prize, the Doug Moran Portrait Prize and the Dobell Prize to name a few. He exhibits extensively across Australia and his work is held in major public and private collections in Australia and abroad. This publication is the first survey of his major paintings from 1980 to 2011, with over 35 high quality reproductions from the original works, and a rare interview with the artist in his Sydney studio.
