The author sets forth a very clear and understandable explanation of how civilization came to be. his major thesis is that humans are all equally intelligent both now ansd in the past, however geography and physical environment has been the single underlying condition for how well that intelligence can be employed. This book debunks many of the myths in the official version of history, particularly taking a more negative view of religion, and refuting the idea that progress is always a perpetual linear upwards trek. I highly recomend this to any student of history, or anthropology. It is light reading for anyone
