Michael and his assistant, David, have dug a pit in the middle of a birch forest. The hole is a trap an angel trap. They aren't hunting any angel; they're hunting an angel maker. The pit is just outside the midwestern city, Redden. The forest around the pit hides sickly demons called Tripes. They gather in circles and send out the energy to infect people to act on their rage fueled fantasies. Deep within the city is homeless man called crazy Billy. Billy has a gift; he can read auras. He stops random people on the street and tells them what their light is whispering. Billy has no knowledge of anything outside his hunger, his gift and his secret, a secret so dark he has forgotten it. Billy is also unaware of the demons that infect the people around him, unaware of the pit and unaware of dark angels that protect him. Crazy Billy, the unstable man who eats out of dumpsters. sleeps under stairs is being hunted by hell; he's the only person in humanity that can prevent the apocalypses.
