This is the story of Andreas Vrekke. It begins in the Netherlands in the city of Rotterdam, Holland. Andreas is the son of a man by the same name. The elder Andreas fell in love with a young woman named Johana Gysberdina Verbaan, and they had a son together. Johana named the baby Jacobus Arnoldous Verbaan. The child was born out of wedlock and was in Johana's care. When Johana fell sick three months after birth, Jacobus was awarded to his father and wife Mary. Johana died six months after Jacobus was born. Andreas and Mary renamed the baby Andreas after his father. This story tells of the trials of Andreas Vrekke junior as he grows up, and at eighteen travels across the Atlantic Ocean to America. He changes his name once again to Andrew Frecker. He does this to match the pronunciation of Andreas Vrekke to the American language. After many trials in a new country Andrew meets the love of his life in a woman named Murl Blodgett. Then the story goes on to tell about Murl's life up until she meets her true love Andrew Frecker.
