The Ancestor Tree

The Ancestor Tree is a wonderful tale of how people who touch our lives can go on living for an eternity in our hearts. Nna-nna, the oldest man in the African village of Amapu is loved by the children for his stories, riddles and jokes. When Nna-nna falls ill and dies, his spirit is kept alive through the love of the children. Echewa's story depicts the enchanted way people touch our spirits and how the ideas of young children can show that with new times, old customs can change for the better. Best described as a work of art, The Ancestor Tree is a wonderful read for young children who understand the way life begins and ends. The full page artwork and superb ending will keep children asking for this book again and again. This story is also a lesson learned for adults. It shows how to open their minds to changes and allow children to have a voice. The Ancestor Tree also shows brilliant ways for families to incorporate new customs into their own lives when dealing with life and death.
