The Amorous Prince

Set in Florence, and preoccupied with the collision of rampant sexuality and women's virtue, Behn's second play parodies the aristocratic attitudes of Charles II's court, comically exploring the effects of depravity and decadence in the highest echelons of society. The main plot concerns Prince Fredrick's erotic pursuits, chiefly with the sister (Cloris) and fianc e (Laura) of his best friend and courtier, Curtius. The Amorous Prince was produced by the Duke's Company in the spring of 1671 at their Lincoln's Inn Fields theatre, whence they migrated in November of the same year to the magnificent new house in Dorset Garden. No performers' names are given to the comedy, which met with a very good reception. It seems to have kept the boards awhile, but there is no record of any particular revival.
