This book was published in 2023 as the first volume in the series "The New Charlie Chan Canon." I've read the feedback from my readers and revisited the novel with a modern perspective. The result is more than just a revision: The new edition will be a classic detective novel in which Charlie Chan follows the clues himself, and you, the reader, have the same clues at your disposal as he does. Chan regains his own voice, just as Earl Derr Biggers originally conceived him. All historical details have been verified, and an afterword explains what is known today about Amelia Earhart's final flight.

The new edition will be published with a new cover. Until then, this first edition will remain available.

Historical Facts

Amelia Earhart, the most famous female aviator of her time, disappeared on July 2, 1937, along with her navigator Fred Noonan, while flying from Lae in New Guinea to the tiny Howland Island in the Pacific. It was one of the final legs of her attempt to circumnavigate the globe on a route close to the equator. The Coast Guard cutter Itasca received their final radio messages but was unable to guide them to the island. The subsequent search by the Navy and Coast Guard yielded no results, and in January 1939, Earhart was declared dead. Whether her Lockheed Electra crashed into the sea, made an emergency landing on a remote atoll, or she was taken prisoner by the Japanese remains a matter of debate to this day.
