Kids' favorite Colin McNaughton returns with another wild and wacky extraterrestrial tale, suitably featured in a planet-shaped book. "They come from planets near and far - Some big, some small, some quite bizarre." Moving at the speed of light and looking for a fight, the aliens are back - but this time they're coming to Earth to conquer the human race! With his zany rhymes and sidesplitting illustrations, the creator of Captain Abdul knows how to keep kids in stitches - especially when they peer into a mirror board and discover that Earth has a surprising secret weapon.
My boy is almost 4, and likes aliens, but loves monsters! These aliens are weird, gross, funny-looking, and talk in nonsense words. What little boy wouldn't love that? The large round shape of the book with pages full of funny drawings makes the book even more enticing. And the end will really tickle your little one's funny bone! This is my child's favorite book he got for Christmas.
"Well soon be standing face to face--/The aliens are coming!"

THE ALIENS ARE COMING is a rhyming book about an alien invasion "zooming in from outer space/To conquer us, the human race." The book is filled with illustrations of comical and cartoonish aliens. The verses that accompany the pictures tell about what some of the aliens look like, the planets the come from, the food they eat, how they talk, and the ships they travel in. However, the alien invasion is thwarted by the most frightening thing on Earth. The illustrations are very funny and there isn't anything really frightening about the creatures. However, faint hearted young children might be frightened by some of the pictures. The pages with the different planets on them is something that would be fun to spend some extra time on with children, having them point out the different shapes and objects that the planets look like. The book says it is recommended for children 4 years and up, but some of the 2 year-olds in my preschool class used to love stories like this, so I'd say it's a good book for children from 2-7 years-old, with a 9 month margin of error on either side.

I found this book tucked away in the corner of the bookstore and got it for my 4-year-old son because of the vibrant illustrations and the "outer space" theme. The content matches the illustrations perfectly with descriptive and hilarious words and phrases. My 21-month-old son got a kick out of it as well and now it is a new favorite to read!
