With a drunk behind the stern and madness and mayhem riding shot-gun, The Alcoholic's Guide to Adventure by author William Rutger is a deliriously funny, at times, tender trip into a spirited recovery. For anyone who likes the occasional tipple or snifter, or takes life a little too seriously, this lighthearted jaunt into the sublime world of drunken decadence is a wonderful reprieve. This fast-paced biography begins with what can only be described by people other than the author as a disturbing memory of the author's father. When his father suggests that he shoplift school clothes, the story will continue to take twists and turns, shot between distant memories and ones that are more recent, in an inspired flashback sequence that helps readers understand how Rutger got to a place where he needed to save himself. Though most roads are paved with good intentions, in his case, the past path foreshadowed the one big adventure that will have readers fully awestruck and oddly inspired.
