This a a really excellent shared experience of a man who went to Alaska during the big gold rush. He shares his emotions as well as really good descriptions of the geography, topography, weather, the other people he encounters and, of course, his efforts to find gold. The writing is excellent; you shivver when he describes living through an Alaskan winter.
A great read!

An autobiography written about the adventures of an 18-year-old Norwegian immigrant in 1914. He goes to Alaska in search of gold. If you've ever wondered how to survive alone in an Alaskan winter with only a rifle, an ax, and a nail, then buy this book. Very funny book, nicely written. Gives insight into gold fever and American society of that time.
