Carnival is just around the corner, so New Orleans is enjoying the last gasps of the off-season. It should be a quiet time in the French Quarter, but nothing is ever truly quiet on Bourbon Street.
When a man and woman walking home from dinner are attacked by a monster, Zach Sully and Ofelia Archer are called to the scene. The man is dead, killed in an instant, and the woman is shaken. She also happens to be Sully's ex-girlfriend.
As Ofelia looks into things-monsters are her specialty after all-disturbing stories start to emerge. People who look like humans but have shadows that resemble spiders are taking over the Quarter...and they're not friendly.
The deeper Ofelia and Sully dig, the weirder things get. It seems the spider people were here before, only to disappear in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.
