In the last adventure of this children's series, Sherrie is faced with blatant prejudice. One of the crew members, Seth, of the Jewish faith, invites Sherrie to his sister's Bar Mitzvah. Though she is not the only non-Jewish attendee, her schoolmates have no problem telling her she should not be participating in the event because she is not Jewish. As they all were not Jewish, she knew they meant she was black.
