Germany, 1989
Finding herself in a giant castle in a red and black warm-up suit, Meridian can't imagine where the mighty wind has taken her this time. But by now she knows to trust herself, and soon a young American named Todd walks in. Todd explains that he and his parents are doing research on their family lineage. After exploring the mighty fortress together, they invite Meridian to join them on a river cruise and tour through the northwestern side of Germany. Along the way, Meridian learns what German people are really like and sees that they are proud and gentle people. But when the new friends open a newspaper on their last morning in Shloss Waldeck, they learn that history is being made in the nation's capital. Without hesitation, they board a train and head east to cross the country and take part in world history. In Berlin, they use hammers and chisels to chip away at a wall that should never have been built.
