To Parents and Caregivers,
"The Adventures of Hok'ee" book series is a series of children's books written for those of us that may appear to be somewhat different or learn differently than others. This book, " Hok'ee learns an important lesson" is a story of how a little Indian boy was able to cope with the dying of a little animal friend.
Death and dying is one of the hardest subjects to approach with a young child, especially if you're struggling to deal with your own sorrow. However, it's an unavoidable part of life, and your child will want to understand it and find their own way to grieve.
But please understand that it's normal for your child to be curious about death, even if a loved one hasn't died. In fact, less emotionally filled times are good opportunities for helping your child cope when he or she does lose someone close or maybe a beloved pet.
Always answer his or her questions about death, and don't be afraid to read stories that touch on it; like this story of " Hok'ee learns an important lesson".
It is also the intent of this series to introduce children to the culture of a variety of Native American tribes through literature and related activities.
