This book is a sequel to Callie Finds a Home which told about a rescued Calico kitten abandoned and left to her own instinct to survive. Even though she misses her own family, she feels safe and cared for. The second book introduces a new friend for Callie, Simba, an apricot miniature poodle who becomes Callie's best friend. When Simba is gone due to an accident, Callie grieves for him and teaches the family that pets have feelings, too. A new cat, Smokey, joins the family and he has a happy personality and nothing seems to bother him. He teaches the family to live life to the fullest measure. Although Callie does not like him at first, he makes her laugh at his crazy antics and they become close. She never forgets Simbah but Smokey leads Callie to new adventures and leaves his mark on the entire family.
